The Disenchantments

The Disenchantments
By Nina LaCour
Dutton Children's Books, 2012

From Goodreads:
Colby's post-high school plans have long been that he and his best friend Bev would tour with her band, then spend a year in Europe. When Bev announces that she will start college just after the tour, Colby struggles to understand why she changed her mind and what losing her means for his future.

This book was wonderful. It made me want to take a road trip. It made me want to wear bright colors. It made me want to buy a one-way ticket to Spain. It made me want to do something spontaneous (I am never, ever spontaneous - so that says something about this book!) I loved watching Bev and Colby sort things out. I'm glad Colby decided what he did. Everything that happened was perfect, especially the ending. Wonderful.

The only problem is that there is a girl on the cover. The main character is a boy. That confused me at first. Also, Bev, the next most important character, cuts her hair off at the very beginning. Covers are important, people. They should be accurate. That's all.

Read it!
