Real Live Boyfriends

Real Live Boyfriends
By E. Lockhart
Delacorte Books for Young Readers, 2010
Audience: All Teens

From Goodreads:
Ruby Oliver is in love. Or it would be love, if Noel, her real live boyfriend, would call her back. But Noel seems to have turned into a pod-robot lobotomy patient, and Ruby can’t figure out why.

Not only is her romantic life a shambles:
Her dad is eating nothing but Cheetos,
Her mother’s got a piglet head in the refrigerator,
Hutch has gone to Paris to play baguette air guitar,
Gideon shows up shirtless,
And the pygmy goat Robespierre is no help whatsoever.

Will Ruby ever control her panic attacks?
Will she ever understand boys?
Will she ever stop making lists?
(No to that last one.)

Roo has lost most of her friends. She’s lost her true love, more than once. She’s lost her grandmother, her job, her reputation, and possibly her mind. But she’s never lost her sense of humor. The Ruby Oliver books are the record of her survival.

This was my favorite Ruby Oliver book. Is this the last book? It feels like the last book. I saw someone mention that it was the last book on Goodreads. That made me so sad. I'm not ready to let go of Ruby Oliver. She was JUST getting interesting. This book was fabulous, and everything wrapped up nicely.

SPOILER ALERT --

I'm glad Kim and Cricket were not important at all in this book. They deserve each other. I'm glad Nora came to her senses and chose Ruby and Meghan. I'm glad Noel and Ruby got everything sorted out, and I'm glad we got a brief glimpse at what Gideon and Ruby were like together. I would have always wondered. And I knew Noel was acting strange, but I never would have guessed the reason. How heartbreaking! I knew it was something bad, but I never expected that. No wonder he was so upset.

Even though I'm not ready to be done with these books, I wish Ruby Oliver and company all the best luck in college and beyond. Maybe we'll get a bonus book someday.

I can dream, right?
