Unbreak My Heart

Unbreak My Heart
By Melissa Walker
Bloomsbury USA, 2012
Audience: All Teens

From Goodreads:
Sophomore year broke Clementine Williams’ heart. She fell for her best friend’s boyfriend and long story short: he’s excused, but Clem is vilified and she heads into summer with zero social life.

Enter her parents’ plan to spend the summer on their sailboat. Normally the idea of being stuck on a tiny boat with her parents and little sister would make Clem break out in hives, but floating away sounds pretty good right now.

Then she meets James at one of their first stops along the river. He and his dad are sailing for the summer and he’s just the distraction Clem needs. Can he break down Clem’s walls and heal her broken heart?

This was a short book and a quick read. Overall, I liked it. I would have liked it better if her summer would have been more detailed. We only saw her interactions with James and how she deals with her hurt. I wanted to know more about her trip and where she was. I feel like I missed a lot of the story. Telling about the trip would have made the story richer and added to the environment.

Also, I would have liked some closure on Amanda and Clem's relationship. I know by the tone that they were probably going to be all right eventually, but I wanted to see how they fixed it. I know they'll never be the same, but I think they fixed things. I wish I could have seen BOTH girls realize that guy was a jerk, too. He was just going to pull that crap again. I can't believe he had the nerve to lie like that. Unbelievable.

I'm glad I read this one even though I was working on a challenge at the time.
Also, the cover is cool, isn't it?
