Teen Talk @ Omaha: Rainbow Rowell

Aggggghhhh! Look at who I met!
That's right - I got to see Rainbow Rowell, Stephanie Perkins and Gayle Forman!
I can't believe it either.
I was SHAKING when they walked in.

Oh gosh. I have so much to say, I will write a separate post on each author.

Post Two: Rainbow Rowell

(I am going in the order that I met them.)

I had different experiences with each author. With Stephanie Perkins, I was like YOU ARE THE BEST and I am in AWE of you. With Rainbow Rowell, I just wanted to pull up a chair and chat and tell her EVERYTHING about how her writing has affected my life. I know she didn't have time for that, though. There was a long line behind me.

Things I wanted to say to Rainbow Rowell:
1. I think of her as Rainbow. Authors should be addressed as Ms. Rowell or Rainbow Rowell but I don't want to be disrespectful. But I think of her as RAINBOW in a way that the world knows CHER or MADONNA. One word. That's all you need.
2. Do you live in a neighborhood like in Fangirl?
3. Did you know that my brother goes to UNL? So while reading Fangirl, I would text him things, like "Is Pound Hall a real place???" (It is.)
4. Did you go to UNL? Is that why you chose to write about it?
5. In Attachments, you wrote about the characters going to a concert at The Ranch Bowl WHICH I TOTALLY DID TOO!! Now, it is no more. It's a Wal-Mart.
6. My friend loves your books and really wanted to be here, but since we work at the same place, she couldn't come.
7. Nothing makes a librarian pissier than bringing up banned books and swearing. Well, this librarian anyway. As much as parents want to live in Denial Land, TEENS SWEAR. They just DO. Not every teen or all the time BUT IT HAPPENS. And Rainbow Rowell was totally right - If teens find something that they're reading uncomfortable they put it down! Sigh. I wanted to get up and start yelling and every one these thoughts and I didn't. (So proud of myself.)
8. Please write a sequel to Fangirl. There's going to be a sequel, right? Because I feel like there's more to this story. Well, I want to know more.

Things I actually said to Rainbow Rowell:
6. My friend loves your books and really wanted to be here, but since we work at the same place, she couldn't come.
RR's response: I have another signing north of Omaha in December, but nothing else until July after that. What library branch to you work at? Oh, thank you for driving! Did you read all of these? (YES, I did, well I am halfway through attachments.) Oh, good are we taking a picture (YES!)

Again.

NO THANK YOU FOR LIVING IN OMAHA AND PUTTING THIS TOGETHER SO I COULD MEET MY ROCK STARS. IT WAS TOTALLY WORTH THE DRIVE 110% PLEASE DO THIS AGAIN!

Up next: Gayle Forman

  1. Loved this! Funny how all of us have so many questions to ask our favorite authors/celebrities/musicians/what have you. And, Rainbow's pretty awesome.
